Today it was Abigail’s turn to go on a field trip. The first-graders went to a historical little farm that gives educational tours to students. There were four centers we rotated through. The first center was making apple cider. The kids got to take turns placing apples in the apple presser and turning the crank.
The second center was the garden. In the garden the kids dug up potatoes and planted corn and peas. 
The third center was the chicken coop. After learning how to tell the difference between the hens (female chickens) and roosters (male chickens), the kids were able to feed the chickens corn and weeds from the grass. They also got to check the coop for eggs.
The last center was the barn. In here they swept up hay and churned butter.
It was a fun day and I even I learned a few things.
