The Conclusions of October 15th

October 15th was a big day for our family – it brought with it the end of Abigail’s volleyball season, the end of Jason’s soccer season, the end of Carly’s 5th grade camp, and the end of Justin’s busy season at work. 

Volleyball

This was Abigail’s first year playing volleyball.  She’s attended a volleyball camp this past summer and two years ago so she was familiar with the sport and super excited to play.  We were excited that she made the varsity team.

Justin and I both attended her first game, which was quite rocky – the girls didn’t play well together and we were surprised that they weren’t even trying to serve overhand – their nerves got the best of them and they started out the season with a loss.  Naturally they improved throughout the season which made it much more fun to watch and cheer them on.

Abigail was a strong player on her team and during the season was awarded player of the week and was specifically mentioned over the school intercom after a few of her best games.  Abigail would love to play a longer season through a club team, but unfortunately they seem to all play games on Sundays.

Jason Soccer

Jason was excited to play soccer again this fall.  He’s still in a young enough age group that the season starts in August with everyone else, but ends mid-October instead of mid-November.  Another difference is that his games take place twice a week on a weeknight instead of Saturdays like the girls.  It’s nice to have them spread out, but getting kids to all their practices/games this year was quite the task.

Jason loves to play – he’s not the strongest player on the team, but he’s not the weakest either.  You can tell he’s out there thinking about the best thing to do and just that moment of hesitation causes him to lose some advantage during a game.  He plays with all his heart though – you can tell by the determined look on his face.  His coach said he was the player that could play in any position (goalie, forward, or defender) and always know he could count on Jason to play his best.

He only scored a few goals this season.  It’s a blurry picture, but it’s all I’ve got.

Jason was a great goalie.  Hardly anything could get by this guy.  Unlike some of the other boys, you’d never catch Jason goofing around as goalie.  He was game on – always watching for the other team.

Katie liked to go to Jason’s games, which surprised me cause it was usually cold and rainy.  Perhaps she wanted to come just in case she got to eat some of the half-time snacks.

Carly Camp Seymour

I didn’t get to go to 5th grade camp with Abigail because I was busy in the hospital delivering Drew.  I was hoping Carly’s camp would be in May like Abigail’s but they moved to a different location last year and hold camp in the fall now.  Carly's landed smack dab in the busiest of Justin’s busy season – October 13-15th.  We were both disappointed with the timing, but knew she’d have a great time.

Like Abigail, Carly submitted the winning cover page for the Seymour Camp book.   She subtly included our names on her illustration.

She came home tired and excited to tell me all about it – skits, dissecting squid, boating, and etc..  Once her initial excitement was over the grumpy-tiredness set in and I was glad to shew her out the door that evening for her clogging class. 

State Taxes Filed

T-Mobile's state taxes needed to be postmarked by 6pm on October 15th – so after days of Justin coming home at 11pm, 1am, etc… he actually made it home at a decent hour.  Just in time in fact to head off to a high priest presidency meeting for the duration of the evening. :)

So thus ended Wednesday, October 15th in the Fletcher household.  Lest you think the conclusion of these events freed up my fall schedule – Abigail and Carly are still playing soccer (started back in August), Justin left just a few days after his deadline on a 9-day “business trip” to Florida with a detour to the Bahamas with his Dad (he’s basically been MIA for so long it will be strange to have him around), and basketball season is already underway.   Love my kids being active, but I could seriously benefit from having a body double.
