Wowsers, I’ve totally slacked off on keeping track of Drew’s
milestones. He’s changed so
much since my last update THREE months ago. As of Tuesday Drew is 14 months old.
Drew is still cruising around. He takes a step here and there without support, but he
doesn’t stand unassisted much. I’m
surprised he hasn’t taken off walking by now. I’m really hoping he’ll be a confident walker by the time we
go camping at the end of August. A
baby on their feet is a lot cleaner than a baby on his hands and knees.
Early in June I asked a friend if it was time to cut Drew’s
hair and she told me yes. I wanted
to avoid waiting too long for that first haircut like we did with Jason.
Jason’s hair was LONG on the top and really short on the
sides.
We look back at these pictures and wonder why we waited so
long – it looked terrible.
But Drew? I
still look at him and think his little curls are adorable.
June 10th
I know that once he gets that haircut the curls will be gone
and he’ll look so much older. I
have no desire for my little guy to look older!
I have a sad confession to make. I have no idea when Drew has gotten all the teeth in his
mouth. That may sounds silly, but
I’m actually a bit bummed I won’t be able to give him a little chart that
documents when each tooth came in.
I blinked and he went from 4 to 12 including 4 molars.
Drew gets in the pantry pretty much every day. I’m probably just as guilty as the kids
leaving it open and accessible.
Honestly though, he can’t really do any harm and if I need him
entertained I let him have at it.
Drew loves the stairs and the kids’ giggles have encouraged
Drew to slide down them on his tummy really fast. For a few weeks we blocked off the stairs with three dining
room chairs, but last month he figured out how to push them all out of the way.
He pushed one all the way into the family room, one into the
dining room and the other down the entryway.
So we’ve gotten pretty lacks on keeping him off the
stairs. Usually someone is nearby
and hollers “Drew’s on the stairs” and keeps an eye on him til his all the way
up or down. He still doesn’t have
the whole turning around at the top of the stairs down so we definitely try to
watch him when he’s upstairs.
Drew loves his siblings! There have been many, many times the girls will try to hand
him off to me and he will refuse.
Drew loves being outside. If I step out onto the porch then come back in he’ll yell at
me. I pretty much hate taking him outside. He doesn’t wear shoes and if
he has shorts on his knees get all scrapped up crawling around on the concrete. It doesn’t seem to bother him, but it makes
taking him outside quite the chore.
I’ve been saying it for months, but this time I think I
really mean it. I’m retiring the
baby bathtub. Drew LOVES it and
technically he still fits, but I think it’s time.
July 8th
Drew still takes two naps a day, but I can see that it won’t
be lasting too much longer. There
have been a few days where his afternoon nap hasn’t been very long or hasn’t
seemed as necessary if he had a really good nap in the morning.
Drew is not fun at church. He is a busy boy so we rarely last through the sacrament
before we need to take him out to the halls to room around. He’s also found his voice recently – no
words, just grunting and general hollering. Justin and I take turns who has him during the covenanted
third hour – it seems I end up with him most of the time because Justin will
have to teach high priests. July
13th was a day to remember though because Drew actually fell asleep
on Justin’s shoulder during priesthood.
It was a Sunday miracle.
I’ve tried to explain to Justin that clearly that means Drew would
rather be in priesthood than Relief Society, but Justin isn’t buying it.
While I was out in the halls with Drew on Sunday he was so,
so tired. He found a car seat that
looked just like his and burrowed his little face into it. I think it actually started to fall
asleep because after laying there for several minutes he jerked himself to
consciousness.

We have been so blessed with good sleepers. Drew rarely wakes up at night and if I
do hear him it’s only for a few seconds and then he’s right back to sleep. There’s only been a few times we’ve
gone into his room between bedtime of 7-7:30pm and morning of 7-7:30pm since we
‘sleep trained’ him way back in February.
Amazing!
He is a light sleeper though during the day and I feel like
I’m constantly getting after the kids to keep it quiet. We don’t even use the bathroom next to
his room during the day in fear of waking him up.
When he’s awake we spend a lot of time in the bonus
room. He entertains himself really
well up there will all the toys.
He’s recently learned to climb up onto the couch though so that’s just
one more thing we need to keep a close eye on.
Has started dancing to music. Since he can’t yet balance on his own he basically just hold
onto something and bounces up and down.
So adorable!
Drew still enjoys playing in the kitchen cupboards. We’ve finally resorted to putting a
ponytail around the knobs to keep him from pulling everything out. The cupboard we keep the kids dishes in
and the Tupperware drawers are still free game though.
Drew’s messes aren’t just limited to the kitchen. He loves to help the kids put away
laundry by throwing clothes out of the baskets, he can remove all the books
from a bookshelf in the blink of an eye, he enjoys rummaging through my recycle
bin in the office, etc, etc…
He keeps us busy, but we sure LOVE this little guy of ours!
