We’d been talking about taking
a day to revisit our Tulip Festival - Deception Pass - Whidbey Island trip of 2012, but Justin and I woke up Saturday morning (April 12th) not really feeling up for the
long day. The kids however were
excited and ready to hit the road – so we quickly threw everything in the van
and off we went.
Drew was so excited when he caught
glimpse of a movie playing – too bad he couldn’t watch it very well sitting
backwards.
We decided to drive the loop in
reverse order this time and catch the ferry over to Whidbey Island first
thing. The ferry ride is just long
enough to get out of the car and take a few pictures.

picture of our whole family – the only picture of all of us the whole day and
we’re all out of focus
Our first destination on
Whidbey Island was visiting Fort Casey.
Justin has fond memories of visiting Fort Casey when he came to visit
his grandparents as a kid.
We brought flashlights so we
could explore the dark rooms and hallways.
The kids had a lot of fun running around playing hide and seek and climbing up and down all the ladders and stairways. They only took a short
break to eat the lunch we had brought.

We spent a few hours exploring the fort and enjoying the large grass field. Drew would have much rather
been sleeping at home in his bed, but he was very patient with us while we were
there and quickly fell asleep when we left to drive up to Deception Pass.
