We’ve been planning for years to attend the BYU football
game at UW in 2018 – the two teams only play every few years and BYU hadn’t
been here in Seattle since 2008, which Justin and I attended ten years ago and
BYU won in the last few minutes – great game.
We wanted to take the family to the game and kept
procrastinating purchasing tickets because Justin wanted to find a good deal –
seven tickets is not cheap. To our
luck, UW had a flash sale on tickets the day we were traveling home from Europe
and we were able to snag seven tickets at a discount. Another perk was that our neighbors, UW season tickets
holders, gave us their parking pass to use for the game.
We were excited.
The girls turned down at least five babysitting jobs for the
evening. Some for families going
to the game, but apparently it was a busy night for everyone. Since BYU fans are spread all over the
nation, I doubt there are many other games that have as many fans from the
opposing team than at BYU games.
It was fun to walk around the stadium and streets and see so many people
wearing BYU gear – definitely not something you see everyday around here.
I was pleasantly surprised that the UW marching band played
the BYU fight song before kickoff and formed a big Y on the field. That was impressive and seemed quite
welcoming.
Unfortunately not all UW fans were as pleasant. We were seated in front of a group of middle-aged
men with foul mouths, habits and poor sportsmanship. They definitely put a damper on our evening. The BYU team didn’t help the
situation. They play so poorly
that we didn’t even stay for the entire game. Really after the first quarter it was a complete bust. Not at all how we’d hoped the kids
first BYU football game would turn out.
BYU finally scored after we’d left the stadium bringing the final score
to BYU 7 – UW 35.
