Today was our first port stop in Skagway, Alaska. We actually didn’t spend much time in Alaska and booked a bus tour up to Yukon Territory in Canada. The tour was about 6 1/2 hours so it took most of the day. We considered doing a train tour instead but after reading several reviews we opted to do the bus because it follows the same route but with the advantage of making several stops along the way for pictures and exploration.
We visited “the smallest desert in the world”
We ate lunch at Caribou Crossing which is essentially a destination made especially for tourists. Being tourists, we didn’t mind the cheesiness of the location and enjoyed our barbecue lunch in a covered wagon, looking at taxidermy animals, and playing with some adorable husky puppies.
We stopped in Carcross (Caribou Crossing) for about an hour on the way back to town. Just a little town for the tourists, but it was pretty and Justin and I treated ourselves to an ice cream.
There were a few stops on the way back to town but for the most part everyone was able to relax on the drive back.

It was a fun excursion and I feel like it gave us a taste of the Alaskan way of life as we learned about the Gold Rush and glaciers. Everyone was ready to get back on the ship so we didn’t spend any time walking around Skagway.

There wasn’t a whole lot going on this evening aside from some movies so we got the three younger kids to bed at a decent time. I enjoyed taking a long shower and relaxing in the room and getting together bed a little earlier than we have on all the other nights. We haven’t kept tabs at all on the girls so I know there have been nights where they have been out till two or three in the morning. They haven’t had much difficulty getting up in the morning when they’ve needed to so we have continued to allow them that freedom.
