We made some good progress with the attic subfloor on Labor Day. It required another trip to Home Depot and while we were there the smoke moved in from wildfires in California and Oregon and ended up staying for several days.
With the smoke so heavy we had to put that project aside for a bit. We ended up buying an inexpensive saw to cut the 2x4’s – Justin was pretty pleased with himself that he used a saw for the first time – Jason was his trusty sidekick.
We finally finished “phase one” of the attic on the final weekend of September and were able to move some stuff up there. We still have plans to lay down some additional flooring and gain some more storage. But yay for progress!
Sept 10: My friend Kari invited the ladies boating tonight with our spouses. Only a few of us ended up being about to make it. It was still pretty smoky but we had a blast. Kari’s boat is amazing – think 007 level of cool. It was so fun watching everyone surfing – we had some beginners and some pros. Justin had a blast!
Sept 12: The Baumgartner’s came to visit this weekend and stayed with us for the three nights they were in town. Mike picked them up from the airport tonight and we met up with them Ivar’s for dinner. The drive to Renton was smoky and gross.
Due to the smoke we had more time with the Baumgartner’s that we would have if they could have done fun things outside. The kids loved having their cousins around and they played lots and lots of game.
Sept 15: A late night facetime with Abigail. She’s living her best live at BYU.
Sept 16: Jason used my phone to take some self-portraits for a class at school. This kid has grown so much this year and has officially reached six feet tall.

Things are still going well with online school. Katie and Drew get several small breaks throughout the day and if the weather is nice they have enough time to go outside and play with the neighborhood kids. They’ve done an awesome job keeping track of when they need to get back online and get up each morning and are ready to go by 9am. It’s been nice for this Mama to have such responsible kids. Jason likes that he gets to sleep in each day – his online classes start at 8:45am which gives him two extra hours of sleep then if he were attending class in-person. He hasn’t complained at all about being online and he’s doing great staying on top of his homework. I’m so grateful that things are going so well.
Sept 19: Justin took the littles out to dinner at Red Robin while I was out of town. Apparently it was the slowest service EVER and the food wasn’t amazing. We used to go to Red Robin regularly as a family but I’m ready to be done with it.
Every so often I get a glimpse into all the fun that Abigail is having down in Utah.
Sept 20: Apparently Jason also took some more pictures on Justin’s phone for school.
Sept 21: Katie got a new song to learn on the piano. How timely seeing as how I just finished watching the Twilight movies with my girlfriends.
This song was my favorite of 2012 so it’s fun to hear it played in our home.
Sept 25: With my being in prep mode I’ve been wanting to organize our garage better to maximize our storage out there. We’ve lived here nearly 10 years and the garage has been Justin’s domain/responsibility and organization is not is forte. I wanted to buy a couple new shelves at Costco, but Justin couldn’t see my vision and mentioned he needed a visual. So, I decided to make a to-scale floor plan of the garage with to-scale shelves options so we could move around everything and “see” it in the space before making a move. I didn’t expect to spend three hours with Justin hemming and hawing over it. It was torture and we ended the conversation without a plan.
Sept 26: Justin and I hit up the bishops storehouse today to get a few more boxes of food storage. We bought the last box of flour and they were out of quick oats, but we got the rest of what we wanted. We also hit up WinCo and bought a ton of canned goods for our short term food storage.
Sept 30: Today was my third tennis lesson with Jason and Carly. Since the kids aren’t doing any sports and we have pretty flexible schedules we decided it would be fun to take tennis lessons together. We’re taking from the same instructor that taught Abigail and two of her friends last year. It’s been so much fun and we’re really improving.
