Today was the first day – all
summer long – that we’ve broken out the Summer Boredom Buster. I created it at the beginning of last
summer to help prevent the kids from expressing that they couldn’t think of
anything to do. Inside are nearly
100 small slips of paper with an activity or task they must complete.
The bottom of the jar reads,
“take at your own risk or benefit.”
Most of the slips are additional chores, but there are enough fun
activities as well which, to them, makes it worth taking the risk.
The kids spent most of the day
completing tasks drawn from the jar:
They cleaned out and organized
their hair drawer
Cleaned the bonus room
Organized the books
Cleaned and vacuumed their
bathroom
Called Justin at work
Drew a picture with their foot
Not too bad, huh?
Took a nap (instead of making
the big kids actually take a nap, the girls changed Katie’s diaper, read her
books, and laid her down for her nap)
We went through the toys and
selected a few to donate
They each wrote a letter to
someone of their choosing
Wrote down five things they
love about each family member
To my relief they didn’t get any
slips that required a lot of my time (like this activity they were hoping to
repeat from last summer) that meant I was able to work on getting caught up on the blog.

I remember a similar jar! Looks like they had fun and were a lot of help to you! You are all such wonderful children, your mom and dad are lucky to have you! Love, Grandma in Hong Kong
