The girls both had their final basketball games on Saturday,
June 7th. This spring
season was pretty casual for them.
Abigail wasn’t intending on playing but was contacted by a team and
asked to join them. The rest of
the girls had played together during the main season so it was strange for
Abigail to come in as the new girl.
She played well, but she never fell into a real groove with the team. They had said that all the games were
on Saturdays but there were a few on Sundays. We just took it game but game and it seems we weren’t
officially on the roster and were never asked to pay anything. During the playoffs Abigail’s
team won their Saturday game which put them in the championship game on
Sunday. We didn’t even follow up
with anyone on Sunday to see if they’d won (turns out they did) – which I guess shows how invested
we were.
We’re so used to Abigail playing in a navy uniform that it
took us a while to get used to watching her in red.
Carly also had a unique experience this spring. The spring league was more relaxed in
that they didn’t have any weekday practices. On Saturdays they had a short 30 minute practice followed by
an hour game. Not enough girls
signed up to have a girl league so the mixed up the boys and girls
together. I was worried that a
10-year-old girl would hold back when playing against boys, but not Carly. She is a great defender and had no
problem getting up in any boys face.
She was a strong player on her team and often scored the majority of the
points during the games.
This was Jason’s second year
playing baseball. Practices
started in March and his final game was this past Wednesday, June 11th.
Justin took this picture during
one of the first practices – I think you’d be hard pressed to find a more
beautiful setting for baseball.
He has a strong throwing arm
and a good swing. He was usually
able to hit the ball without resorting to the “T”.
Jason loved racing the bases
after each game. Here he is
jumping up and down as he cheered on his teammate and anxiously waited for his
turn to run the bases.
I guess Jason couldn’t eat most
of the snacks during the season.
During one of the last games I went to his coach made a big deal out of
having brought something that Jason could actually eat. Jason’s coach was fantastic – I
really hope we get him again next year.
Definitely a busier spring
season than we’re used to, but overall the kids had a good experience and it’s
always nice to have them doing something active.
