Each year we wonder if Katie will play soccer again and each year she keeps saying yes. She’s not passionate about soccer, but she has fun and never complains about practices or games. Katie typically plays defense and she has a strong kick. Sometimes it looks like she’d prefer the ball stay far far away from her.
Katie isn’t aggressive on the field, but she’s a great team player. She makes good passes and has great instincts of where to toss the ball on a throw in.

Like Jason’s season, Katie started practices in August, games in September and played through early November.
Katie had two back-to-back games set to play on Saturday, November 9 starting at 10am. Based on the results of those games we knew there was a chance she might have a third game, which would be for the championship. Her team tied the first game and won their second game. After the first two games her coach arranged a little team lunch. He’d arrived at the park early, early that day so he could park his motor home to use as a hangout/shelter during their downtime. Brilliant. During lunch we found out that Katie’s team had earned a place in the championship game at 2pm. Katie stayed at the park the whole day but Drew and I snuck home for a little while before the big game.
As it turned out the opposing team was from Fall City and the daughter of my friend Addy played on Katie’s team last year, but switched this year when they moved to Fall City. It was fun to watch the game with a friend, but would’ve been even more fun if we were cheering for the same team.
It was a close game! The teams were so evenly matched that we ended up going into double overtime and then when that didn’t break the tie they had a shoot off (which at this age the girls had never seen before). Our team won the shoot off and the game and the season.

Her coaches were fantastic. It’s a husband/wife combo and they were great about complimenting the girls as well as teaching them how to improve. Hopefully they coach again next year. It’s gotta feel great to lead your team to the top.
It was a long day for a bunch of nine year olds (and their parents), but they gave it all they had and it paid off. Way to go Katie!
