After our previous day at the
beach the kids wanted to spend today at the resort playing in the pools. In the late afternoon we cleaned up and
headed into Lahaina for their Halloween celebration. There was a short little parade down Front Street with the
customary local political leaders, marching bands, and fire trucks after which
a parade of locals, tourists, and children flooded the streets all dressed up
for Halloween. We enjoyed some
shaved ice from Ululani’s while we checked out all the fun costumes.
When the parade started to die
down we headed across the street to finish eating our cool treat in the shade.
We walked down Front Street as
the kids gathered a few goodies from the stores giving out candy.
One
restaurant gave each of the kids a Halloween themed PEZ dispenser
Some gal gave each of the kids a
small Halloween bag full of goodies.
Katie was completely taken with it and kept close dibs on it for days
afterward (and when seeing this picture today she ran upstairs to get it).

I neglected to mention that at
the ward trunk-or-treat we discovered that Katie is really quite scared of
people dressed up even remotely scary.
Inside the little goodie bag were fangs for each of the kids. Anytime one of them would put them in
Katie would holler, “Don’t care {scare} me!”
It was a fun evening – not
really how you’d expect to spend Halloween with young kids, but I’ll admit
hanging out with my favorite people in such a beautiful place is better than
any amount of chocolate bars.
