My friend Addy and I met up this morning to go for a walk. She is nearing the end of her radiation treatment and is starting to regain her energy so it was nice to get out with her and be active. Justin took Carly to Red Robin today to redeem her birthday meal and when he noticed that Costco didn’t look very busy he decided to run in and pick up a few things. They were still out of toilet paper and cleaning products and now unfortunately flour. We actually have plenty of flour but I have a feeling we’re going to be doing a lot of baking and I would prefer not to open up our food storage if we can avoid that.
The kids played outside with neighborhood kids and had the neighbors over for a couple hours in the afternoon. Turns out this was another last for us.
Inside we were getting ready to have friends over for our Pi Night. I thought it was funny that Carly was facetiming friends while cleaning the ovens today. Do you see where she placed her phone?
When I sent out the invitation for Pi Night about a week ago the intent was to have dessert at our house after the adult session of stake conference; however, when they canceled conference I decided that if we were still going to have it we would bump it up to 8pm instead of 9pm. I held off making that change just in case something would happen in which we needed to cancel the activity all together but the overall consensus seems to be that people still wanted to get together and visit and eat delicious dessert so we forged ahead. I was actually pretty surprised that we ended up having seven couples here, which is slightly over the recommended 10 person maximum for social gatherings. I made banana cream pie, peaches and cream pie, an apple cranberry pie, and a snickers ice cream pie. In addition friends brought a custard pie and a coconut cream pie so there was plenty of delicious pie to enjoy. I was mistaken that it would be possible to make a delicious, fresh peaches and cream pie in March. The peaches I bought at Safeway were not only expensive, but half of them were bad so the top of my peach pies were pretty sparse on the fresh peaches.
It seemed like everyone had a great time visiting and ended up staying for several hours. We don’t host parties very often so this was nice and came at a time I feel like we all needed some socialization and an opportunity to process what was going on in our world.
Addy brought us a stash of books for us to borrow and a big bottle of hand sanitizer which is essentially liquid gold. So generous!
March 14 - Washington State Department of Health reported 40 deaths and 642 confirmed cases. Tests are beginning to be made more available so naturally those numbers are going to increase substantially. The UK and Ireland were added to the travel ban for passengers flying from Europe to the United States. Nearby ski resorts closed.
